One more day left in 2013!  This year has really gone fast!

We haven’t done a lot but a few of the high points from the last couple of days and a few pictures are coming up…  Linda has been down with a slight case of the Texas Crud and I have the sniffles.  Could be a lot worse.

We went to ROPA Saturday with a bunch of ladies from the park.  We are looking for costumes for the New Years Eve play which is a murder mystery dinner that takes place in the early 1900s, probably around 1905.  We did pretty good in finding the costumes!  We stopped for lunch at a little Mexican Restaurant which was pretty good!

Lets see if I can name them all… On the right is Cheryl, Mary, Mary, Mary, Nan, Judy and me. No is wasn’t a mistake with all the mary’s.  They are Proud Mary, St. Mary and Holy Mary!  Had a really decent lunch.

We stopped at a lot of thrift stores and ROPAs.  We finished at Wal Mart.  Linda had to get some tape for my tie.

We had a Christmas Dinner at the club house and I know this isn’t in order but I better put it in while I remember it….

I think we had about 25 or 30 people show up which was really good!  There are a lot of people that haven’t made it to the Valley yet and a few that just don’t join in.  Excellent food!  Good fellowship.

OK, back home we worked on our costumes for the play.  I am a piano player and Linda is a girl dressed like a boy working on a boat!  I will get pictures of the others tomorrow night at the play.  I think we will be surprised at the costumes they wear!

Linda did a excellent job on the tie and she looks great dressed as a boy. She did a good job on the costumes.  Hate to say it but my outfit is almost all women’s clothes. What the heck though, it’s a party!

We went to church Sunday at Palm Valley.  The Youth Pastor had the service and he did an excellent job!  We enjoyed it.  Linda didn’t go but Don and Cheryl went with us.

Happy Birthday Jesus and Merry Christmas to all!

John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”!  Now, what is the reason for this season?  Don’t think it is sending cards and giving gifts, which is nice, but this is Jesus birthday, His day, and we should celebrate HIM!  Our Savior, our Redeemer, our Hope!!!  Christmas is way to commercial and seems to be losing the meaning, but I am thankful for all that God has given me and allowed me to do!

We went to church last night with Don and Cheryl.  Has a very nice program and I even took another picture!!!

They had a lot of singing and Pastor Rick Gannon gave a very short message with and invitation!!  Some churches don’t give the invitations anymore and I think that is kind of sad.

Linda fixed her pretzel salad for the  dinner tomorrow at the clubhouse.  Looking good!!  I love pretzel salad.

I fixed the faucet in our camper.  Not sure what happened to the old one but it started leaking.  The new faucet has a light in it! I think it is kind of cool, no battery, no electricity but when you turn it on the light comes on.  Blue for cold and turns red when the water gets hot.  Not an expensive faucet so I hope it lasts.  I will have to take a picture of it sometime.

The cold front made it here last night.  Got a little cool sleeping.  I didn’t put on our comforter last night because it was still to warm.  I turned on the furnace this morning though.

Yesterday we went to a different church.  It was Palm Valley Community church.  I liked it, very large church and the pastor, Rick Gannon, had a very good sermon on the women in the lineage of Jesus.  I had never thought about it but most of the women mentioned were not Jewish!  I knew about Rahab, but Bathsheba wasn’t Jewish either according to Pastor. I think the point he was making was that through His lineage there were people that were like us but still in His lineage.   He was very entertaining and brought a very good message.

This church reminded me of the church we went to in Bowling Green KY.  In large churches like this they usually don’t have an Invitation but I think he has one at probably every service.   I like that.

We went to church with Don and Cheryl then stopped for breakfast at Nelda’s which was pretty good.  We didn’t do much of anything else the rest of the day.

I got a new kitchen faucet for the camper and I put that in on Saturday I think. I had a terrible time getting the old one out!  Usually the new one is the problem, well, it was to, but not as bad as getting the old one out.  After I got it and put the new one in I couldn’t tighten it down, the sink was in the way so I had to take the sink out.  That was unusually easy.  Then tightening the new one down was easy.  I need to get some putty for the sink before I tighten it down.  The new faucet worked great and no leaks.  The faucet has a light.  It is and LED light that doesn’t have batteries.  It works, not sure about the hot side which is supposed to turn red, I didn’t have the water heater on.  Later….

This month is certainly going fast!  Christmas is almost here!  We went to Wal Mart yesterday.  It was very warm and windy.  It was actually very windy. I took a picture on the way home….

It isn’t a cloudy day but the dust was really bad.  Not just in spots was it bad but all over. It was hard to imagine that it wasn’t cloudy.  The dust was really bad.

When we were out we stopped at a Mexican restaurant for lunch.  They call them Tacquerias (which probably isn’t spelled right) and this one wasn’t to good.  Linda had a chicken fajitas and I had something else.  Not sure what it was called but wasn’t the greatest.

Linda is finally getting over whatever she had but still isn’t doing to great.  She gets tired really fast and sleeps more than usual.

I’m trying to figure out what else we did during my time of not writing.  I helped Joe and Don on Joe’s ceiling.  That was quite a bit of work, then he put up ceiling fans.  That was also quite a bit of work.  I don’t remember ceiling fans being so complicated.  I didn’t do much of the work so I guess I shouldn’t complain.

The dogs are settling in and I think are pretty comfortable.  Chloe loves to sit on the step when I have the door open.  She sits there for a long time.  When she sees Sparky sitting, or laying, by me it is time for her to butt in and try to take over.  They are doing a little better but Chloe is still the boss.

Guess that is about all.. We are going with Don and Cheryl this afternoon.  Going to check out the days of operation of the other Pulga we went to about 20 miles away, and that was last year so we can’t remember the day that we went.  Going to eat at Furr’s today to give it a try.  Been years since we have eaten at Furr’s.

Well, we made it through Friday the 13th without any major accidents.  Linda is still really not feeling good.  May have to take her to see a doctor or something. 

Not a lot going on, I went to Wal Mart yesterday morning and picked up some things, still didn’t get everything.  If it isn’t on the list I will probably not pick it up.  I took Sparky with me and I guess it was better than staying home.

I went to Leo’s and picked up some chicken that I have enjoyed.  It was a little more expensive than last year, like most everything else.  The propane went up a little bit but it is still not to bad.

I’ve been reading a book about FDR.  It is very interesting.  Learned a few things that I didn’t know.  The book is very large and will take me a few weeks to read it.

Sure wish I had more to write about but we have just been staying home and Linda is still not feeling well.

December 10th 2013 (Tuesday)

 

We haven’t been doing much of anything.  Staying home and trying to keep warm. Yesterday it wasn’t to bad, still cool and cloudy but it wasn’t windy. We still stayed home and kept warm.

I am sure that we will probably stay home today and try to keep warm.  I have a few things to do, we got an insurance bill and I’m not sure what it is for. There is no policy number on it and the bill isn’t one I have ever seen before even though it is from a place where we have insurance through.  Time to get on the phone I guess.

I’m not going to write much today, haven’t taken hardly any pictures so won’t have any to put on here so I am just going to say Night Y’all….

I’ve started using the date I write the blog instead of the day I am talking about. Right now it is just a little after 7AM and I really haven’t done anything today except get up. Not real exciting!

So on Friday Linda cooked a turkey, and we had our Thanksgiving dinner, well, actually She cooked it on Wednesday and we took it off the bones then had the dinner on Friday.

Doesn’t she look so happy???  You can tell we are using our good china.  The dinner was excellent.  Love turkey!

Last night we went to the Rick Brown dinner.  They are members of the church we go to and they put on a dinner and entertainment. They have two groups from local schools come and perform.  The first was from Rowe High School in Mission and their group was called Raz-Ma-Taz and they put on and excellent musical (Christmas).  We even bought tickets for their high school play in January…

These kids had some good talent, good voices, also acting.

The second group was from  La Joya ISD.  They put on a really good show also. Mariachi type of show.  These first four kids had more moves and energy that I ever thought of having!!!

 

They did traditional Mexican dances that I could only imagine. Not sure how anyone could do what they did.  Very good..

The next was a band and they were excellent also…

Hard to believe that High School kids have this much talent. 

Anyway, we had a good time and a good dinner.  Relaxed when we got home.  I have to get ready to go to church now so adios y’all….

Did I mention we switched to Direct TV and we have had a lot of problems with Direct, especially with the moving around. They aren’t the same as Dish Network, there is no charge when you move with Dish but Direct wanted to charge over $100 each time we move and we will be moving a lot so I cancelled and we went back to Dish.  Cost a bundle to get out of Direct and I’m still having problems.  They need the receivers back, no problem, except they took a long time to send the box to return the receiver and I’m sure I’m not done paying yet, what a bummer. Just a hint to anyone thinking of Direct TV, if you are traveling a lot and want to take it with you, it doesn’t work good at least not for us.

Someone sent in a picture to the TV station and it was a lot nicer than this one.  It was a beautiful sunset.

Oh, I got the box last night for the receiver so I packed them up, couldn’t find the packing tape, so I decided that the Post Office would probably have some.  Got there at around 4:35PM and the closed at 4:15PM.  Not a real good day so far!

Weather wise it has been a great day!  I wear a jacket in the morning and then have to take it off later. 

I went to Pulga yesterday morning, the flea market close to us.  I don’t buy much but I sure like to walk around and look.  I picked up some vegetables.  Didn’t have the selection today like they usually do, but I got a few and had a nice walk.

We just sat around last night and watched TV, was a nice relaxing night.

So far today looks like another really nice one so I guess I’ll say Bye Y’all.

We had a pretty good weekend, went to church Sunday and they announced that the services would be back to 8:30AM instead of 8AM.  That will be nice.  I like the early service but that half hour makes a big difference.

The other morning, in fact it was Sunday morning, it was very foggy and I got a picture of Chloe looking at a cat.  Not sure if she knows what cats are.  She is still pretty cautious around them…

Mary, Holy Mary, brings steak bones over for Sparky, I kind of tricked Chloe..

That is a stem from a head of broccoli!  She ate quite a bit of it then decided it really wasn’t a bone at all.  Sparky even tried it.  I ended up throwing them away.

I have a problem.  Our screen porch has gutters and they are plugged.  Can’t figure that one out…

Got a cactus growing in the gutter.  I tried to get it out but the gutter is full of dirt, packed of course, and it won’t budge.  The prickly part is really sharp. I think this is the kind that is good to eat.  Can’t remember the Spanish name for it right now.  I tried to clean the mud out of the gutter and I can tell I am going to have a really big project ahead of me. The inside of the gutter is almost inaccessible!  Very small area to get to.  I took the ends off and maybe I will be able to push from one end to the other.  I doubt it though.

Anyway, we have been having gorgeous weather.  Gets nice and warm.  This coming weekend we are having another cold spell and the highs are supposed to be in the forties again. Not looking forward to that but am enjoying the warm weather now.

This is the last day of November already!!  We have been here over two weeks and I’m still unloading the camper.  Last night Linda asked about a couple of things and I know they have to be in the camper.  Some day all will be in here, well, maybe not.  I think the camper makes a good storage unit.  We don’t have a lot out there but for things we don’t that is a good place and out of the way and out of sight!

We are getting settled in and comfortable…

Chloe and Sparky get a lot closer now than they used to.  Sparky isn’t giving up his spot on my left side, well, not all of it anyway.

I spent most of the day yesterday working with my new iPad.  Now it is either easier to use than the computers or I’m getting smarter and I doubt it is the latter.

The dogs and I got to go out a lot yesterday (when not playing with the iPad) and soaked up some the the nice warm sunshine.  I even got to go out in short sleeves.  Just a gorgeous day.  Supposed to get warmer now.  Looks like the weather forecast is to be dry and warmer for the next few days.  I don’t miss the cold weather.

Today is going to be a beautiful day, but this morning was really cold!!  Well, it was in the 30s and there was quite a bit of frost on the pumpkin.

We are having a dinner at the club house at noon.  I like the get together’s  with the people at the park.  Have lots of good friends here.

Linda made a pistachio desert last night and this morning she made baked beans.  Pretty good choices, no one made either one, in fact, I think the only two things, string bean casserole and pumpkin pie were the only two things that were duplicated.  Quite a wide range of foods.   I think there were probably only about 20 people there but was a nice turn out for this early in the season.

Got some really bad news this afternoon.  Linda’s Aunt Virgie passed away this afternoon at 2:30.  I am going to see if I can find a picture of her.

This was the best picture of Aunt Virgie that I could find.  We went to Sara’s graduation in 2011 and I guess that was the last time we saw her, but it sure doesn’t seem like that long ago!!

We are trying to figure out if we should go, I feel bad that we didn’t stop when we were on the way down here.  We got a late start, by about a week, and I was in a hurry to get here. Guess it doesn’t pay to be in a hurry.

We are still thinking about going up there even though I hate to be on the road during the holiday.  Sure would like to be there though.

Rainy, windy and cold!!!  Ran out of propane (1 tank) so had to go switch tanks so the furnace would run.  The propane guy comes three times a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  No special time and with the cold I imagine he is pretty busy.

We baked cookies this morning.  We made peanut butter – oatmeal that turned out OK.  I think we will probably eat them all:-)…

Not sure how many we made but it was around four dozen.

We just stayed in today, got it nice and warm and ate some cookies, not all of them though.

Gas man finally came this afternoon.  We should be set for the rest of the Winter.  Well, if the weather gets warm it will last.

Well, that is about it for today.  Not a real exciting day but we kept warm enough to survive for another cold day…BRRRRR….  Night Y’all

Not much planned for today.   It is very warm this morning and pretty humid but things are supposed to change. 

I decided to take the air conditioner out and clean it to see if it would work any better.  I was quite surprised that it wasn’t hard to get out or move outside.  I did it myself!  Not bad for an old man.  It was really dirty.  Lots of dust caked on the fan blades and the fins.  I wet it down with water and put on some scrubbing bubbles and some other cleaner and hosed it off.  It looks a lot better!  I will have to wait for it to dry out to see if it works OK.

I let it sit out for about an hour drying off then brought it back in.  That wasn’t real bad either.  I plugged it in and started the fan and it works, then turned on the air and it works.  It is almost 80 out now and the air it is blowing is 66 or 68 so I think it will work. I decided to close up the house and see how good it does work.  We ran it for about 45 minutes and it was comfortable in here and after about an hour, or a little more, the compressor shut off and it was actually comfortable in here so I guess it is going to work.

I texted Brandon and Tara yesterday to see if they would email me a picture.  They said they would so when I get it I will post it on the blog.

About 2PM the wind started blowing and Linda said I could turn off the air because the cold front has made it.  It is pretty cool out for sure.  We left the house open to keep it cool and by 5PM I had to close it because it was getting chilly. Linda had to put on a sweater and it was still 73 degrees in the house:-)….

I don’t think we will need the heat until morning.

This was this summer at home but that is a hummingbird.  For me taking the picture I thought it turned out pretty good!!!

It is going to be another warm day.  There is a very nice breeze blowing and makes it feel great!  If the wind quits it will be pretty warm.  Guess we better enjoy it because Saturday is going to be like winter.  Not really looking forward to that.  High Saturday is supposed to be in the high 40s which is very cool for down here and not only that, it is supposed be be rainy, cloudy and very windy.  That might be a nice day to stay inside!

We went to Wal Mart to check on a few things.  I want to clean the air conditioner to see if it will work better.  Thanks giving is next week so we need a few things for that.  We are having a get together at the club house.  I like them, nice time to visit and eat.

Took it easy this afternoon.  We are going dancing tonight at Mission Bell. Joe and Mary, Dave and Judy and maybe Jack and Mary will be going.  Should be a good time.

The dance was fun but Jack and Mary didn’t make it.  Maybe next time.

Lets see if I can find a picture.

Chloe likes sitting on the front step just watching, nothing?  Not sure what she looks at but she spends a lot of time sitting there.  At least she doesn’t bark like Sparky.  I may have to get a shock collar for him and teach him not to bark.  Unfortunately, some barking is OK so how do I get him to be quiet except when it is OK???

Guess it is time to say Night Y’all…  I was just thinking that I didn’t get a picture of Brandon, Tara, Hanna and Mason, at least I don’t remember seeing one.  I will have to ask if they will send us a picture.

We don’t have anything planned for today.  Going to take it easy and enjoy the nice warm weather.  Almost to warm with the humidity!  Love it!

I am thinking of things to do.  There are things I would like to do like fix the air conditioner.  Well, actually Don and Cheryl gave us a new one and I would like to stick it in the spot the other one is but it is a lot smaller.  The one in there now I believe is like a heat pump.  Maybe all it needs is to be cleaned up???

Another project I would like to try is building a table for the kitchen that will not take up as much room as the one we have now.  I think maybe it needs to be one that folds down.  I have some ideas but needs some wood etc to build it.  I also thought about building one that has legs that are a “C” shape that would be next to the wall and not in our way when we sit down.   May try that one sometime.

Got a group together this afternoon to go to Excalibur for lunch or supper, whatever you call it.  They have good tacos and a couple from our park plays music there.  They are pretty good.  Linda and I even got to dance a couple of dances.

We left early so I could go to church.  Pastor Adrian resigned and they had a special meeting tonight to announce the meeting Sunday.  Kind of interesting.

I wanted to go to the flea market this morning.  Linda didn’t want to so I went by myself.  It was very interesting.  Got there about 8AM and was easy to find a parking place.  A lot of the vendors hadn’t even set up yet.  I wasn’t looking for anything in particular, just looking.  I did see lots of things though…

This is the closest flea market and probably my favorite.

Had to get a picture of this little dog with his suit, hat and shades. He must have been used to wearing them, he didn’t seem to mind anyway.

This wasn’t at the flea market, it is actually where I have the camper parked, across the street from our place.  You have to look kind of close but you can see the bananas above the purple pod.  I think banana trees are great!!

Oh, the only thing I bought at the flea market was vegetables and some bananas.  Some of the biggest carrots I have seen.  Hope they are good.

We pretty much took it easy the rest of the day.  I still have to go over to the camper and get stuff.  I made bread today.  Linda chopped up the jalapeno peppers.  The bread didn’t turn out to good but still tastes pretty good.

Watched out TV shows tonight, NCIS etc.  At least it was a little cooler.  We have had the house open for a couple of days not but I think Saturday it is supposed to cool off and then Sunday it is supposed to be down right chilly.  Furnace time again!!

Today is Sunday and we got up and went to church at the First Baptist Church of Mission.  Had a good service but at the end, Gerald, the assistant pastor, read a letter from Adrian and Adrian gave his letter of resignation. Was a real surprise to everyone.  He says he has personal problems that the Lord will have to take care of.  He doesn’t want people to try to contact him or his family.  I can understand that he wants his privacy.  The Sunday School class had a little thing on loss.  Everyone loved Adrian and his preaching.  He will be missed but the Lord will take care of everything.

I know I have another picture here of something and I think I will try to put it on here…

This was our going away party.  They made us a really big card and signed it for us.  Thought that was really nice.  We had a great time visiting.  Will be awhile before we get back there.

Got  a picture of Joe and Lisa.  Lisa went to school with our kids in Morris Illinois.  What a small world.

Well, we are going to take it easy tonight.  Tomorrow will be another day that will be another busy day.  Got lots of things to take care of since we don’t live in Missouri anymore.

Beautiful morning with a nice little surprise!!

This was just a cloud with the sun shining on it.  Thought it was really neat.  In fact a very light second rainbow could be seen to the right. Doesn’t really show up in the picture though.

Got the laundry done this morning and this afternoon the guy from Dish is supposed to hook up the dish. 

It got quite warm today.  I think it got up to 84 degrees and I think Chloe likes it…

I think she is posing for her picture and she really didn’t want to move.

Not much going on today, had hot dogs for supper and they were really good! Had some sauerkraut to go along with it.

Just going to watch a little TV tonight and do my blog. Have to figure out how to get the address on my email though.  Anyway…Night Y’all….

We made it here last night about 5:30PM.  Drove a lot farther that I wanted but it worked out very well.  It was still light when we got here. 

I took some time and unloaded some things from the camper, hooked up the water heater, turned on the fridge and light the furnace.  It was a little cool here and Linda was chilled a little.

Slept pretty good last night and this morning was beautiful.  A little chilly but God gave us another look at His handiwork!

Isn’t that just a gorgeous sunrise???

We spent a lot of the day unloading the camper and Linda has a boat load of stuff to put away.  When we leave we sure aren’t going to take all this stuff with us again, way to much stuff to be packing and unpacking.

The dogs have had a rough trip and they are pretty tired also….

You can tell that Chloe rules.  Sparky doesn’t seem to mind, he always gives in to her.

We were cold almost all the way down here and this afternoon we have the windows open and it has to be close to eighty degrees.  LOVE IT!!!!

We were just invited to go to “Excalibur” with a couple other couples for dinner.  Not sure we are going but we might.

Here goes again, we made it to Texas.  Stayed last night in Malvern, Arkansas.  Nice campground that we have stayed at many times before.  Very inexpensive but comfortable. Got really cold last night. Probably around 28.  supposed to have gotten colder and then in the morning walking the dogs I about froze!! Way to cold for me.

We had good traveling today.  Made it to Conroe TX.  Not where we really wanted to be but after we passed what I spell as Nachadoches,TX we couldn’t find a campground anywhere!  There just didn’t seem to be any.  We finally got off 59 South and headed to Conroe because we had stayed there before.  We did find a nice campground in Cut and Stay, funny name for a town and that probably isn’t right, it is probably “cut and paste”.  Campground is very nice.  All kinds of problems though.  We have some water leaks. Not bad but any leak is bad.  Will have all Winter to fix them.

We cancelled out Direct TV because of the cost.  We have only had it a couple of months but going to Texas they are going to charge us $$$ to move it and it is every time we move it.  Time to cancel and go back to Dish Networkl

I am going to give it another try.  I think I am posting my blog but I’m not sure how to get to it.  At least I can look it up myself and see what I have been doing even if no one else can.

Went to church yesterday. Had a really nice service in the morning.  I sang a song for special music.  It was “Sheltered in the Arms of God”.  No practice but guess it was OK.  I am not a solo singer but I do enjoy singing.

Last night they had a “celebration” for us leaving….HUMMMM.  I got to sing a song with Loyd.  We have sung this song a lot but it is a very good song.  I am going to try to put a picture of us on here.

This is Loyd.  A couple of years ago I heard him sing a song and asked if we could sing together.  I really like singing with Loyd.  He is a real character.  We sing “The Blood that stained the Old Rugged Cross” and have sung it many times but it is always good.

I have another picture of Lisa and Joe.  Lisa went to school with Dee and Bren..

Lisa said that Dee and her were pretty good friends.  Joe and Lisa do the youth ministry and Joe has helped in the jail ministry.  Really nice couple.

Well, guess I will go now, not sure where to find my blog but it is out there somewhere!!  Night Y’all……..

Windows is really giving me a hard time!

 

Well, I posted a blog and it went to my blog but not the one that I have had before.  I think I have a new one….

I have tried to get this blog ready to go since July.  I couldn’t remember my log in password so I guess this will just have to suffice, not sure if I can remember how I did it but if it works I will have to try it again.

Well, right now we are getting ready to take off to Texas.  We signed papers this morning for our place and Brandon and Tara are really excited to get into the house and we are excited for them and also excited to get on the road to warmer weather. 

I really need to try to get a picture in here….

This was an old picture but Anything would be OK at this point and this sunrise was absolutely beautiful.

OK Things look good here, if it works I will start putting them on the blog again.  I just want to say that Windows 8 is a nightmare yesterday, today and probably forever!!!

OK, I haven't posted a blog in a couple of months due to a bad memory, my memory of course.   I have forgotten my password and with a new computer it is hard to remember what I did a couple of years ago.  Anyway, I am going to try this again and see if I can get it posted...

OK, I finally figured out what the little thing is that has fuzz on it.  It is a musk melon or cantaloupe. I  think the neighbor kids picked this one and a couple of others but  I picked a small one and tried it. Kind of tastes like a cantaloupe but has a smoky flavor, probably from the wood that was burnt there.

This was a trial and we will see if it works.  If I can post it and retrieve it I will be back in the blog business....  Night Y'all....
