Friday January 31st 2014

Well, this is the last day of January!  We had a beautiful day yesterday and today and tomorrow are supposed to be better but next Monday we have another cold front coming through then a second one that is supposed to really cool things down.

We took Chloe in to the Vet Tuesday to get her teeth cleaned.  They pulled 15!!! Her breath was really bad and we knew her teeth had to be bad.  She actually did very good.  Didn’t complain at all.  When we got home I fed her some mashed potatoes and peas.  She ate them plus what I gave to Sparky.  She walked around outside like normal. We have to give her antibiotics and some pain medicine.  Not sure she needs the pain medicine though.

We went to Mexico yesterday with Don, Cheryl, Larry and Pat.  Had a good time.  First time in many years, we even took someone else with us…

P1020378

Yes we did, we brought Flat Stanley with us.  He is quite popular, people walking by remarked that they knew Flat Stanley!!  This was actually a clone of Flat Stanley!!  I will have to send this picture to Alexa.

I made an appointment to get my teeth cleaned next Thursday at a dentist in Progresso. There are many dentists and pharmacies.  We really didn’t go to buy anything but to have a nice day out.  Stopped to eat at one of Don and Cheryl’s favorite places, can’t remember the name of it though..

P1020386

The food was great.  Starting on the left is Don who is Cheryl’s brother, Linda, me Cheryl, Don and Pat.  Don and Larry are going to help do a little work on our porch.  Then maybe our bathroom, not sure about the bathroom though this year.

We were really tired when we got back home, Linda took a nap and I stayed up with the dogs.  We have church tonight.  This will be class 401.  It was kind of interesting but I am kind of a shallow person and some of it didn’t make a lot of sense.

That is about all I have for now.  I will have to write more later…Bye Y’all….

Saturday January 25th 2014

This is hard to believe that the month of January is almost over.  Should warm up pretty soon!

Thursday the 23rd we went on a cruise on the Rio Grande River!  I think there were around 25 in our group.  We ate at the Riverside cafe.  Food was OK but expensive..Linda and I shared a hamburger and fries, cost about $14.  That was just a little on the high side!

P1020354

Those were all that went on the cruise that I knew.  There  were more in our group though.

The boat ride was very relaxing, kind of boring, but very relaxing.  This is the boat we went on…

P1020358

I’m guessing that it seated around 50 people.

Thursday night we went to class.  This class was about all that went on in the church. They have ten pastoral positions and they represented most of the jobs that needed to be filled.  Cheryl volunteered to water plants on Monday, Don was also volunteered!  I volunteered to work in the “Holy Grounds” coffee shop.  I am having a terrible time with this blog.  I have erased it twice now.

I am going to try to make this a little shorter, we went to Lowe’s on Friday and checked prices for the porch we want to close in, at least half of it, and found out that they deliver for $49, one load, so that sounds good, we just have to get it all at once.

Met Jack and Mary at Lowe’s so we went out to the Texas Steak house for supper.  They have great food and the price isn’t to bad either!  We really enjoyed it.

I am going to post this before I erase it a third time…..Bye Y’all…

Tuesday January 21st 2014

We have been having some excellent weather.  I took a couple of pictures of the sunrise, just beautiful around here….

P1020348

I know the fence is in the picture but it is still a beautiful picture…

We haven’t been doing a lot but it was nice enough the other day that Cheryl and Linda went to the Jacuzzi for awhile.  Bob didn’t leave it on very long and the water wasn’t quite warm enough to be comfortable…

P1020345

I think they had a good time though.

Went to church Sunday morning at PVC.  Had a good service. I went Sunday night but they didn’t have a service on Sunday Night….

After the morning service we went to Mr. Gatti’s pizza for lunch.  That is really a good place.  They have a wide variety of pizza, pasta, deserts and even baked potatoes!  Very good.  The price wasn’t to bad either.

I made an appointment to take Chloe to the vet to get her teeth checked.  She has really bad breath.  Even Daniel said she has had bad breath for a long time.  Time to get it checked out and get her fixed up.

Today I am making bread, hope I get it done before we have to go to the veterinary’s office.  The appointment is at 1030AM so I think we will  make it.

Time to say Bye Y’all….

Sunday January 19th 2014

Friday was kind of a busy day.  We went to a movie, “Jack Ryan” with Daryl, Cindy, Dave and Karen.  The movie was great but the sound was over whelming!!  I had to put my fingers in my ears it was so loud!  I don’t think I will go back there again, at least not without my ear plugs.  My ears are still ringing!

After the movie we stopped at What a Burger.  David and Karen had never had one.  This was a first for them!  Even got a couple of pictures…

P1020341

and the whole group….

P1020342

It was kind of funny in a way, I asked one lady that was serving to take a picture and she got really agitated and left quickly.  I think that she probably didn’t have a green card or what ever aliens need to be over here.  Cindy asked a young man to take the picture and he did a very good job.

Just remembered that Karen had never has biscuits and gravy so this morning was another first for her.  Linda and I made the biscuits and gravy for the park at the club house this morning.  I got up early, around 4 AM and started making the biscuits.  Linda got up at 6AM and made the gravy.  Didn’t turn out to bad, biscuits weren’t the greatest but they were OK.

We had forgotten that we had tickets to go see a musical at Nikki Rowe High School. They play was “Annie Get Your Gun”.  This was the first of eight performances, and they did an excellent job.  There sure is a lot of talent in that school.

We got home around 11PM and we were beat.  Maybe tomorrow we can take it easy.  Forgot, there is a park wide rummage sale and I have a few things I am going to try to sell instead of putting them in the dumpster:-)…

I slept in this morning (Saturday) until 6:20 AM!!  I am almost always up by 6AM.  Well, I sure didn’t feel like getting the stuff outside even though there were cars coming in by the droves!  I got the table out and started loading it but people were buying things about as fast as I could get them out.  I was out of almost everything in an hour so I put by table away.  I had a couple of other things I forgot about so I put one thing over with Don and Cheryl’s stuff and she sold that and I sold an old lawn chair to Pete and that was everything I wanted to get rid of!!!  I think I made about $56:-).

OK, I can take it easy the rest of the day!! NOT!   Paul was thinking of a way to clean out my gutters, well, not him, me.  The gutters are packed with mud and debris.  There is just no way to get in there and clean them out.  Whoever engineered them never had to clean them!  There were three of us working on it and I think it took about three hours to get a thirty foot section cleaned out.  I will clean them every year now, now that they are clean.

Now, time to relax.  We had left over fajitas for supper.  They were good and we still have enough for one more meal!

OK, it is time to say Bye Y”all…

Wednesday January 15th 2014

Well, let me think of what we have been doing, the weather first.  We have been having beautiful weather.  Temperature at night has been a little cool but during the day it has been just perfect!

We had a chili supper Monday night over at the club house.  Mary, (Holy Mary) made the chili.  She had two different batches, one regular and one VERY HOT!  She bought some peppers at the flea market, from Mexico and added a bunch of them.  Linda took just the hot and at most of the bowl and then had to add some regular to finish it.  She got a lot of tears but she had to eat it.  I put just a little in my bowl and it was hot enough for me!

I came home after the dinner and Linda stayed to talk with the women. On the way home, it was dark, and she was going to come in the back door, well, she tripped and fell on a cactus… not fun, not a good feeling.  She said she called me but I didn’t hear her.  This is the poor cactus…

P1020340

She got stickers all over her leg and bottom, her arms and her hand.  I pulled as many as I could but my eyes are so bad I couldn’t see a lot of them.  She went over to Cheryl’s, and Cheryl pulled a bunch.  A lot had broken off and were hard to see and even with tweezers we couldn’t get them.

I went to Wal Mart and got some drawing salve to put on them.  We spent about a half hour putting on the salve and covering with band aids.  After going all day she went over to Cheryl’s and Cheryl took off the band aids and the stickers came out with them…Amen!!!

I know this is going to take a long time to heal but at least they aren’t still in her.  She even has to get a new pair of Crocs! There are stickers that came through the soles and we can’t get them out!

Well, after all that, we have been enjoying the weather and relaxing.  There is a lot of stuff going on this week, Cindy and Karen are having the stuffed baked potatoes on Thursday night, Friday morning Linda and I have the biscuits and gravy, oh, Thursday night we go to the bible study at PVC and if I remember right we are going to Rowe High School either Friday or Saturday to see the Raz Ma Taz group put on a concert or play.  They are pretty good.

Guess it is time to say Bye Y’all..

Monday January 13th 2014

Linda and I went to church yesterday and it was a good service.  We went to church again at the Conway Ave Baptist Church just to see what it was like.  I wouldn’t put a rating on it but I think we will continue to go to PVC.  We really enjoy going there.  The church is so big that it is really hard to meet anyone.  The church services are good though even though I am not into the Praise Singing.

It started raining, guess we had the chance for rain but it still surprised me!  I don’t think we got much rain but it was enough to get the ground wet.

A lot of people went to SPI for the weekend.  There was a 10 kilometer race that Holy Mary wanted to run.  She did very good, placed third for her group.  Linda and I stayed home, well, I went and gave blood Saturday.  It was a little different, I gave platelets instead of blood.  It took longer than giving blood but they said that is what they needed so I agreed.  Ed and Joan went with us and they walked around the mall while I donated.

Not sure what we are going to do today, I would like to go to Lowe’s but we need to do some figuring before we go.

Guess that is about all for now,  Bye Y’all….

Saturday January 11th 2014

Thought I better write some more in my blog.  Having a hard time getting on the internet but hopefully I will be able to post this.

We went to PVC, Palm Valley Church, Thursday night for a class.  It is called Class 101.  There are going to be four classes and the first one was on the church and what it believes and it’s doctrine.  This reminded me so much of Harvest Time Bible church in Rock Falls I couldn’t hardly believe it!  I guess that it is just Biblical in what they believe.  Most churches we have been to believe the same things with some slight variations.  It is a very large church, not sure what the membership is but they are going to three services next month.  This also reminds me of the church in Morehouse.  Pastor Rick believes the bigger the church gets the smaller it needs to be, small groups with help from everyone.  Small classes, small get together groups and everyone getting involved.  Amazing church!  This church is the closest to Harvest Time in beliefs and function.  Pastor Rick reminds me of Pastor Dalmus.  So far the only thing I don’t care for is the singing.  Don’t get me wrong, the singing is great but it is Praise singing and I am stuck with the old hymns and just can’t get into the praise singing. Oh well….

We had the coffee klatch yesterday at the clubhouse.  I think it went pretty good even though there weren’t to many people there.  I think there may have been sixteen, give or take. We had fruit, donuts and I made some cinnamon rolls.

We had a Bible study after the donuts which turned out pretty good.  Kermit has a book that we read from and discussed.  Can’t remember the title but has to do with the mud and the masterpiece.  Kermit wanted to get through the first chapter but if we had done that we wouldn’t have been able to discuss much of anything because the chapters are so long.  Had a good time though.

Some of the people went to SPI, South Padre Island, for a 10k race over the bridge.  With the dogs we decided to stay home and relax.  Probably would have been fun.

Today should be a pretty easy day, I want to go and give blood then go to Lowe’s etc.  Nothing special.

Guess that about drains my memory, time to say Bye Y’all…

Wednesday January 8th 2014

We got up early this morning and went to breakfast at Nelda’s with a group from the park. Had a great and a great breakfast.

P1020339

A young fellow from another park took the picture.  He did a pretty good job.  He wore a ward robe from ROPA.   Well it really didn’t look that great but probably cost his less than a dollar for the whole outfit.  From the far end of the table is John and Judy, Daryl and Cindy, me and Linda, Don and Cheryl and Jack and Mary. Only one Mary in this picture.

Linda is feeling better but still not quite up to par.  We are supposed to go to church tonight for a Communion Service.  Not sure how often they have it but wanted to go tonight.  We signed up for a class tomorrow night.  We will see how that goes.

Not much else going on so guess I will say bye Y’all…

Sunday January 5th 2014

It is just like any  other year, getting used to putting 2014 on checks etc is going to be hard to remember for awhile.

We are starting to plan a little construction on our place.  The screen porch is kind of a catch all right now and I think we will close in about half of it and make it our dining room or meeting room or whatever room.  This will get the kitchen table and chairs out of here and we my invest in another recliner.  Not sure if that is how it will work out but sounds good anyway.

Linda is starting to get over her Texas Crud, PTL….  We went to church this morning at Palm View Christian Church, PVC for short.  We signed up for a class on Thursday evening, kind of like a Wednesday night service but is a class on the church etc.  I will have to write more about it later.  They are having communion this Wednesday and I think we will go to that service also.  They have a lot of things going on in this church

P1020288

Good thing they have the video, or screen up, I can’t see the people on the stage.

Well, I know there are more things, oh, after church we went over to Don and Cheryl’s for lunch.  Linda had fixed a ham so we took it over with bread and condiments.  Had a good visit.  We picked up a little puppy, well, Cheryl picked up a little puppy in the HEB parking lot.  Looked like it could be a golden retriever but not sure, a cute little thing.  They can’t have a dog and we can’t have another one but the Lord took care of it. The neighbor took a look at it and his little boy looked at it and Don gave it to him. We both gave them money to get it taken care of.  We know it has fleas but don’t know what else.  Hopefully he will have a good home.  They have a little farmette just north of here so it will have a place to run and play, a little boy to play with also.  We were all happy!

Guess it is time to say bye Y’all…

Wednesday January 1st 2014

I can’t hardly believe it only 364 days left this year!!

We have really been having some very cool and rainy days!  It warms up into the seventies for awhile then back down into the forties for to long.  They really need the rain down here even though this picture of our front yard doesn’t look like it….

P1020305

We even have ducks swimming in our front yard!!!

Our get together last night was fun.  Had a nice dinner and after that we had a murder mystery….

P1020321

The painted lady in red was the organizer, her husband was the river boat captain, I was Ragtime Joel the piano player, Marty Graw the gambler, front row left is Candy Barr the entertainer, Allie Gator the dock boy (actually a girl) and Rosie Thorne the grieving widow.  That was the first time we saw the script so we didn’t do very good at acting but we had fun and I think the people did to except it went a little longer than it should have.

P1020324

Do you know what they are doing?  They we definitely having fun trying to guess who had the high and low card.  It is funny, there is Mary, Mary, Linda, Mary and Cheryl.  The three Mary’s played some kind of card game by themselves and that was pretty hilarious!

Guess I will call it quits for now and start the count down until Christmas…..Night Y’all…
