Friday June 12th 2015

Well, I will start with Tuesday.  Took Tim to the hospital in Davenport for his back operation.  Turned out successful but the dogs had to stay home for about 15 hours. They weren’t happy…

SAM_0331

Tim was hurting pretty bad but I think he is laughing in this picture. He felt 100% better after the surgery, they removed a pretty large fragment from his back or spine.

Went to Marion Thursday to see friends from Seldom Rest Ranch.  Got to see Dallas, Larry and Joan and Andy and Joan.  Wanted to see Eleanor but she couldn’t make it…

SAM_0338

Yes, it is eating time again!!

Eleanor couldn’t make it because she had Chemo Therapy this morning and I imagine she isn’t doing to good.  Got a picture of her from Seldom Rest at one of our plays….

P1030398-003

Eleanor is sitting, she played a nurse (which she is) and one of my many wives.  Had a fun night, really sorry she isn’t feeling good.  She had cancer before and it came back and they told her it was stage 4.  She kind of plays it down, but she says if it gets the best of her, she is ready to go see Jesus!  What an attitude!

OK back to the present, it has rained for the last 24 hours, good soaking rain but I think everyone likes the sunshine!

SAM_0335

SAM_0334

Beautiful sunrise the other day.

Guess it is time to try to post this so Bye Y’all…..

Tuesday June 9th 2015

Got together yesterday with Fred, Ed and Dennis in Franklin Grove at the Lincoln Road CafĂ©.  Had a good visit and some good food…

SAM_0325

SAM_0328

Got to use the zero turn mower a couple times, not good at it but I can get the  mowing done…

SAM_0310

We’ve had a couple of camp fires, burnt up some wood I cleaned up from a fence row…

SAM_0274-001

Guess that is about all for now, I think I will post this….Bye Y’all…

Friday June 5th 2015

Well, we decided to go back to Sikeston and come back here again in August for the family reunion.  Will be heading back around the 16th of June.  Got a picture of Joe, the owner of Leisure Lake….

SAM_0302

We get along OK but I guess I was spoiled by Mark.  Mark lets me do my thing and with Joe I’m not sure what I can and can’t do.  Doesn’t seem like home here anymore either.  I think Texas is  probably the closest thing to home with all our friends down there.  Sikeston is good also.

I did get to use the zero turn mower a couple of times.  Linda got a picture of me…

SAM_0311

I enjoy running the zero turn but I’m not real good at it yet.  Still need lots of practice.

Our little goslings are growing fast.  They don’t have any yellow left and are actually getting some white in their tails.  Their wings are still pretty stubby but a couple more weeks and they will be maturing.

This mower is hard to use on the hill which doesn’t look bad but it is pretty steep….

SAM_0315

We have lots of plans for next week.  Getting together with Ed and Fred and maybe Dennis and going to take Tim and Connie to the quad cities.  Tim is going to have surgery and they don’t have a car right now.  Will be pretty early but I think we can manage it.

Guess that is about all for now so Bye Y’all…

Thursday June 4th 2015

Well, I gave Joe my 2 weeks notice yesterday.  Lots of different reasons but I guess the main one is this just isn’t home anymore.  Hate to say it but Sikeston is pretty much our home for the summer and Texas for the winter.  We probably wouldn’t have left Texas if I hadn’t agreed to this job here in Rock Falls.  I will miss a lot of things and people here but we have a lot of friends in Sikeston and the people in Texas we consider family.

I got to sing in a quartet on the fifth Sunday.  Had a good time. The lead singer (Jerry) has a great tenor voice.  He was minister of music at the First Nazarene Church in Sterling but I guess when the pastor retired they hired someone new.  Got a picture of him but not the quartet….

SAM_0289

Jerry is eighty six years old and has a beautiful voice.  Tim is behind him and he played the piano for the quartet.  The organ is his instrument of choice but he can sure belt out a tune on the piano!

The little geese babies (goslings?) are getting a lot bigger.  They don’t have their feathers yet but their tales are starting to turn white…

SAM_0300

They sure are growing fast.

We made plans to see Ed, Larena, Fred and Joan Monday in Franklin Grove for lunch.  Not sure if Dennis and Joan will come or not, not sure how to get ahold of them.

Oh, I am going to add a picture of Jeanne.   She is a great piano player and singer….

SAM_0299

She has been playing the piano all her life I think and she can really play good.

Well, if I can make it to McDonald’s I will be able to post this.  I will probably go this morning.   Will be nice to be where we can get the internet!

Time to say Bye Y’all….

Wednesday May 20th 2015

Getting in a lot of trimming and weed whacking.  The work isn’t really hard but after a few hours my back hurts.  Not complaining cause if you don’t hurt a little it means you haven’t done a lot I guess.

It has been cool, yesterday was nice and today cloudy and when I finished doing the trimming and wee whacking it started raining so I figured I would come to McDonald’s and get on the computer.  When I went out to the car it was spitting little ice crystals.  I guess that is called sleet.  A little larger and it would be hail (I guess).

SAM_0214-003

The goslings aren’t yellow anymore, They are kind of a dingy grey color but still stick real close to mom and dad!

Guess I will try to post this and say Bye Y’all…

Monday May 18th 2015

Well the next couple of blogs are from some time ago when I probably couldn’t publish them.  Got some wrong months mixed in with the May blog.

Went to church Sunday night and the kids choir put on a musical and they did pretty good!

SAM_0248

They are called the Agape League…

SAM_0245

They did very good for a bunch of young kids.  They remembered the songs and their lines,  Very interesting….

Time to say Bye Y’all….

Friday September 12th 2014

The hot weather is gone for now, it rained almost all day yesterday even though it was still pretty warm.  I decided to bake cookies yesterday, because it was cooler, and I had a recipe from a lady here that I wanted to try.  Well, she couldn’t find the recipe and I don’t really like following recipes anyway so I tried it on my own.  Well, they are soft but I think I used to much flower, not enough sugar and not enough peanut butter, but used to much salt.  They aren’t to bad though.  I think we will still eat them but next time I will change the recipe just a tad….

P1020934

I think they actually look better than they taste.

Wednesday night bible study was actually pretty good, got some laughs.  We were supposed to do chapter 12 of Proverbs but only got a little over half way through.  Had lots of discussion which is what I like. Pastor Randy got going and I think he had everyone laughing about a “voodoo” doll and some of the happenings at the hospital.  Quite an evening.  I will finish up the chapter next Wednesday.  Seems like when I lead a lesson it never gets done on time or I have to split it into two different nights.

I will tell you that I am sitting here shivering!  I get cold easy but I think the temperature is only about 65 outside and probably the same in here. Before the week is over I will have to us the heat.  I don’t like to be chilly!

Not much more to say so I guess I will get out of here…..Bye Y’all…

Monday April 20th 2015

Guess we will be heading to Springfield, Il today.  We have had a really good time with Don and Cheryl.  We put lots of puzzles together.  In fact we have put together seven puzzles in seven days.  Two puzzles each have one piece missing but the other five were fine.  The puzzles only have three hundred pieces so we got them together pretty fast.  I will put a picture of one here…

SAM_0140

Gave us a lot of time to play and talk…

SAM_0129

Here is another picture of us eating!  Went to Kline’s for dinner. Really good food and if you can see the display case between me and Linda, they have some of the biggest cakes I have ever seen, they have to be close to a foot tall.  Lots of other stuff also,  like pies and cobblers

Had some beautiful sunrises…

SAM_0153

Really a lot of red in the morning.  Today is Monday and we didn’t have the bright colors but it is going to be a beautiful day.

Got to get things ready to go, will have to wake Linda up after awhile.  Don and Cheryl both have things going on this morning so I’m not sure if we will leave before or after them.  Probably after.

Time to say Bye Y’all…..

Sunday May 17th 2015

We have had a lot of rain the last few days!  Today is warm and humid and tonight a cold front is supposed to come in and the next four days will only get into the 60s.  Guess it could be worse.  If the wind doesn’t blow very hard it will be nice.

Went to see Sr. Margaret Anne yesterday and had a very good visit.

SAM_0241

My sister is recovering from knee surgery.  Had her cast taken off Friday and it is a little sore now.  Sr. Louis Anne is in the back with Linda and I.  Had a nice lunch (Subway) and a great piece of rhubarb upside down cake, yummy!

Not a lot going on here, been weed whacking and doing a little trimming.

Went to church at HTBC this morning, the kids are going to have a concert tonight and had a little preview this morning…

SAM_0244

I think tonight will be good, they did a good job this morning.

Got a picture of where we are camped…

SAM_0243

The lake is probably about 4 or 5 acres, people have been catching a lot of fish and a neighbor gave us some blue gill.  Very good!

Well, I will post this when we get to McDonald’s because we don’t have Wifi here.  Sure miss it sometimes but we will get it when we get back to Missouri and Texas.

Time to say Bye Y’all…

Cinco De Mayo or May 5th 2015 (Tuesday)

Well, this is Tuesday already.  I have been busy painting picnic tables.  Painted 30 of them. It was kind of a back breaker but I’m glad that they are done….

SAM_0172-001

OK here is a picture of the picnic tables done, finished, complete, well as far as I’m concerned…

SAM_0223

OK, I inserted these after I had written the blog so things are a little out of order. The next paragraph goes with the first picture of the tables…

These are before I started painting, well the ones that are farthest away are done. Finished the last four yesterday afternoon.  The sun came out and warmed up so they were dry.  Rained the night before so everything was pretty wet.  I decided to mow around our camper then Joe said I may  as well get the big mower out and finish it.  It is a pretty good sized zero turn and I used it once last year and it wasn’t around campers. It actually went quite well and I decided to mow the field behind us.  By the time I was done I had become a little more familiar with it.  By the end of summer I should be proficient!

It rained again last night and got quite cool.  Hope it warms up.

Well, I have to make a decision about my license and the plates on our vehicles.  Don’t want to keep them in Missouri anymore and I really don’t want to license them in Texas, so I think Illinois will be the answer.  Voting will be the hard thing because we will never be here in November, guess absentee voting will be the only thing we can do.  Missouri was terrible with the absentee voting, won’t get into that.

Guess it is time to say Bye Y’all…

Sunday, May 3, 2015

Sunday May 3rd 2015

Well, here is another post on my blog.  I have been working at Leisure Lake Campground for about a week not and can tell I am sure out of shape.  Just painting picnic tables make me quite sore…

SAM_0213

These as you can tell are Canadian Geese with their little ones.  I will try to find a picture of the picnic tables….

SAM_0172

OK, here they are, I have all painted except for four of them.  Next good day I should be able to finish them up.

Going to put in a picture of a sunrise.  Beautiful for sure….

SAM_0203

We have had some very cool days, at least in the morning but summer is coming.

Going to say Bye Y’all….

Monday April 13th 2015

Today is our last day here at Hinton RV Park, maybe.  Had quite a week, lots of stuff  to do and got most everything done!!   I’m surprised!

We got to the doctor and got our checkups, got Linda’s medicine and the doctor told me I was obese!  Oh well, better than being told I was ugly or had cancer!!

I helped Mark out some here.  Got the mower ready to go and spread four hundred pounds of fertilizer!  That was a real job and I found out that I am really out of shape.  Took me three days to get it done, but I got all the places he wanted me to get.

Precious went to the vet to get her claws (front) out and she seems to be recovering nicely.  She had a little play time with Chloe…

SAM_0117

She sure likes Chloe, don’t know why, maybe because Chloe is smaller and doesn’t have a lot of sharp teeth, and she plays also.

I pulled a tooth out yesterday, mine, and it had been bothering me for a couple of months and kept getting looser and it came out pretty easy.  Feed like a new person…

SAM_0112

SAM_0115

Got the camper licensed today, it was due this month, want to get it done in Illinois or Texas.  Preferably Texas so we can vote there.

Well, guess it is time to say Bye Y’all….

Friday April 10th 2015

Got a picture I want to add.  It is a picture of Rob and his cat.  He has two cats and he says that he put them on Southwest Airlines with a tool belt to get out and a GPS to find us.  Better not do it ROB!!

P1030125

I think Rob would be lonesome without his cats.  They don’t like Precious anyway.  I’m not sure any cats down there like Precious, she is such a loving cat.

Well, we went to the Dr yesterday, and Linda got her ears cleaned out and hopefully that will help with the dizzy spells and also the hearing. The Dr was funny because when he found out that she couldn’t hear good, he spoke up, LOUD!  Scared me at first but I told he I think she could hear that…LOL

I got a couple of steroid shots.  I have had a rash ever since we got Precious.   Figure that must be what I’m allergic to.

We go back in this morning for blood work.  Shouldn’t take long, then we go pick up Precious.  We are taking Chloe to get her nails trimmed and Sparky to get him expressed.

I have so much to do before we head out hopefully I will get it all done.

Guess it is time to say Bye Y’all….

Saturday, April 4, 2015

Saturday April 4th 2015

Well, we are in Texas yet, wanted to be in Sikeston tomorrow but afraid we won’t make it. We stopped at a campground over night,  Shady Oaks where we have stayed before, and decided it wasn’t a good idea to go through Houston on a Friday afternoon at rush hour. Watching the news the rush hour “wasn’t”.  Guess a lot of people got off work early and there wasn’t any rush hour.  Who knew?

Our camper is making a strange noise and I don’t like it but not much I can do about it. Hopefully it isn’t to serious but it didn’t start until after we had the brakes fixed and it doesn’t do it very often.  Got  “clunking” sound.

The way this trip is going I think maybe next year we will just try staying in Texas for the summer.  Don’t like the kind of heat down there but we do have air conditioning.

Well, this is a surprise, posting my blog almost two days in a row.  I will see if I can find a picture to post….

SAM_0070

Isn’t  that sweet? Not sure where we are but they both wanted on Linda’s lap…

Bye Y’all…..

Friday, April 3, 2015

Wednesday April 3rd 2015

Well, since I last wrote, we left for home, had some problems with the camper.  The brakes wouldn’t release, when I filled up with gas we got a little over 2 miles per gallon, not very good, not only that on the highway I couldn’t get over 45 MPH so we stopped and got the brakes fixed.  New calipers, turned rotors and all new bearings, cost about $1050.00.  Hopefully it will be OK.  We drove this morning and it seemed OK but before we stopped there seems to be a clanking noise.  Hope it isn’t anything.

Precious has been very good riding.  We tried the cage and she got out and seemed to be OK so we left her out.

SAM_0087

Yep, she likes riding on the dash.  She did a lot of exploring and rolled Linda’s window down twice!!  She actually did very good though.

Well, I think I will try to post the blog more often.  Well, if I have wifi I will post it more often.

Time to say Bye Y’all….

Wednesday, April 1, 2015

Wednesday April 1st 2015

Well, this is the first day of April and we are trying to leave this morning to go back to Illinois, the loading of the camper is not fun.  Way to much stuff going and we already have way to much stuff in there.  Oh well, guess it will work out.  The thing I am most worried about is Precious. Never traveled with her before.  Hope she does well.

Linda is kind of getting over her little bout with dizziness and flu(?).  Anyway she is feeling better.

Thought I would post another blog.  Haven’t done it for awhile.   See if I can find a picture of Precious…

SAM_0006

OK found a good one of her.  She is a great cat, loving and all that but hopefully she will travel well.

Going to post this now, I have a lot of work to do….

Bye Y’all….

Tuesday, January 6, 2015

Tuesday January 6th 2015

Well, this is the first blog for 2015!   I have been procrastinating for some time so it might as well be now!

We put on a play New Years Eve and I don’t think it went quite as well as last year but people still seemed to enjoy it.  I have a couple pictures of the cast….

P1030276

Quite a cast huh?   The bottom row, Joe, Don, Cheryl, Mary and Linda.  Top row, me and Mary.  I was the one to “done it”.

P1030266

Linda’s new dress…

P1030267

Don and Cheryl.  They look good don’t they”"?

P1030271

I think Mary dresses up quite nicely, also think she may have been singing!!!

P1030272

Linda and Mary.  Mary played Luc a Frenchman!

P1030269

Linda and I before I put the mustache on.  Not a comfortable outfit but Linda looks good doesn’t she?

Another thing, we have the camper fixed, (almost) and ready to go.  Still have things I want to do on it and also have a lot to do on the park model.  Got to wait until it warms up though.

Time to say Bye Y’all….
